Police Commemoration Day was held at Police Lines Ludhiana which was led by IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal where tributes were paid to the martyrs hailing from Police and Para Military Forces. 

On this auspicious day, Mr. Paramraj Singh Umranangal stressed on fighting the anti-national forces jointly. He said that we can enjoy a peaceful environment and communal harmony because of the sacrifices made by our martyrs.  

Mr. Umranangal paid tributes to 434 police and paramilitary personnel who martyr between September 1, 2014, to August 31, 2015, in different parts of the nation. A contingent of police gave a salute to the martyrs along with the official and dignitaries present at the function. Two minutes of silence was also observed to pay tributes to the martyrs. 

Mr. Sukhpal Singh Brar (ADCP) recited the names of 434 officials and Police Jawans along with Para Military Forces who gave their lives in the last one year. 

While discussing the whole significance of Police Commemoration Day Parade, Mr. Umranangal said that on this day, CRPF jawans are paid tribute by the police of all the states and Para Military Forces across the nation to all those who were a martyr on October 21, 1959, at Hot Springs, Ladakh.

He added that the Police Commemoration Day is celebrated to honor the martyrdom of all the martyrs belonging to the Police and Para Military Forces who sacrificed their lives for the dignity and unity of the country every year. He also praised the role of Punjab Police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty battling militancy in Punjab. 

He also mentioned the role played by the police in resolving internal disturbances in other states. He made a special mention of Dinanagar incident where Punjab Police proved its worth. 

Mr. Umranangal said that during the dark days of terrorism, Punjab lost a total of 117 precious lives while combating terrorism. He also assured that they extend their full support to the families of the martyrs who are living in Ludhiana. On occasion, he also honored the families of 43 martyrs. 

Prominent dignitaries present at the occasion were – Mr. Rajat Aggarwal (Deputy Commissioner), Mr. D R Bhatti (Former DGP), Mr. Narinder Bhargava (Deputy Commissioner of Police), all SHOs, all ADCPs, all ACPs, and Police personnel. The martyrs were also given floral tributes at the memorial constructed at Police Lines.
